Quarries and quarrying

The village of Ano Doliana dates back centuries when it comes to marble quarries, as they have been operating here since the 6th century B.C.  We’ll visit the quarry the marble came from, when the church was built. This area is very close to the site where the ancient quarries are situated now. There, we’ll talk about the village's vast history regarding marble. As well, there will be an on-site demonstration of the mining methods during antiquity. We will also view the different methods of lifting and transporting in those days. Finally, we’ll also try to process some pieces of marble with specific tools

DAY 4:

A Visit to the "Kubli" area to the vineyards of Tselepos- wine tasting

The "Cubli" area is situated at the southeastern end of Tripoli where the region plateaus. It is at this point that the mountainous mass of the Parnon region begins to peak, and where we come across the first village of Ano Doliana.

In the past years, vineyards were cultivated, and for this reason almost all over the land we meet many vineyard tanks/sterns, stone-built buildings and pathways where the grapes were pressed.

For a period of time, the cultivation of the vine tree was abandoned in order to devote the plain almost exclusively to the cultivation of fruit trees.

Today, vineyard cultivation has dominated once again, with the center of activity being the winery of the Tselepos Estate, which has been built amongst a large 300 acre, privately-owned vineyard fully adapted to the environment and the ecosystem of the area.

After wandering for a while amongst the  vineyards, we’ll end up in the uniquely designed picnic area situated in the courtyard of a fully restored and imposing watermill, named Kokkinomylos, synonymous to one of the finest wines of the Estate.

There, we’ll have the pleasure of tasting three of the fine wines of the "Tselepos Estate"

Wine tasting and all other activities will come to an end with an outdoor BBQ under the supervision of our team, 5πεντε.

But other activities also take place, like the pruning of trees, but also the planting and grooming of vegetable gardens. Every activity is interesting and entertaining, and depending on the season you visit, you may be able to participate in one or more of these activities.
